Badgers Holt and Gothic Cottage are situated in the grounds of Newlands Manor which is a Grade II Listed 200 years old Mansion, built in the Strawberry Hill Gothic Style. Part of it is much older, having survived a fire on Christmas Day 1802.
The grounds of the Manor cover 35 acres of woodland, all privately owned, but originally the Manor’s grounds included most of Milford-on-Sea.
The social heyday of the Manor was in the 1890’s when the Kaiser, the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) and many other eminent people of the day were guests of the Cornwallis-West family.
Our guests have seen up to 18 different varieties of birds, in one week from Gothic Cottage and also deer running and jumping whilst they were walking down our back drive.
Pheasants, squirrels, rabbits, foxes, badgers and deer use the front drive as well as their human neighbours.
